You weren’t supposed to wake up. You were supposed to sleep through the night like a log, as you always did. But tonight you were…unlucky.

Astarion’s thirst had never been satiated, not properly anyway. Having fed on rats and vermin for years, your intoxicating scent drove him to near collapse. The first few nights in camp turned out to be the worst, having to sneak away in the darkness to find some small animal to sink his teeth into.

After finding the boar in the woods he knew you were starting to become suspicious. He saw the way you looked at him through the firelight, like you knew the thirst was slowly driving him mad. He hated that smug smile.

That night, he was fighting an almost uncontrollable urge. After you and the others had fallen asleep in your bedrolls, he snuck over to you while weighing his options. Your scent tickled his senses, stomach rumbling as his tongue scraped over dry teeth. It would be so easy to just bend over, to plant his lips on your neck, and take a bite of your soft skin.

The right thing to do would be to fight his hunger, to get up and slink into the forest and find something he could drain without consequence. Hovering above your inert form, he inhaled deeply, letting your scent envelop him like a cloud of poison gas. You would never know how badly this affected him, how weak you could render him. And for that, he hated you. For that, he chose not to do the right thing.

At that exact moment, your eyes fluttered open and he darted quickly backwards as if he was a child with his hand caught in the candy jar. He blinked as your eyes narrowed in the darkness.

“Ah, sh*t.” He said, breaking the silence in an awkward admission as you gaped at him. You moved quickly, standing as if ready to attack and he reached his palms up in protest. “No, it’s not what it looks like, I swear!”

“I wasn’t going to hurt you. I just needed…well…blood.” He paused, awaiting your reaction. If he could play this right, he could still have your trust. Your eyes narrowed again, as if seeing him for the first time in the moonlight.

“I can’t believe I didn’t see it,” You smiled softly, and Astarion felt his body relax. “We even found the boar you snacked on.”

“It’s not what you think,” He said defensively. “I’m not some monster. I feed on animals; boars, deer, kobolds, whatever I can get.”

He sighed looking down and hunching his shoulders, like a penitent child. “I’m just too slow right now, too weak.”

“If I just had a little blood, I could think clearer, fight better,” He paused before saying softly, “Please.”

As the mind flayer linked you and Astarion, he panicked slightly as if his manipulations will be revealed bare before you. But you didn’t pry, ignoring the parasite.

“Why didn’t you tell me?” You asked, trying to focus on the emotions through the tentative connection. He seemed anxious to you. But as the connection severed, he smiled as if he had gotten exactly what he wanted.

“At best, I was sure you would say no. More likely, you’d ram a stake through my ribs.” Trying to contain his excitement, he joked as you crossed your arms over your chest.

“No. I needed you to trust me.” He paused, considering his words carefully. “And you can trust me.”

You hesitated, wanting to believe you could trust him. “I do. I do believe you.”

“Thank you,” He tilted his head and pushed his luck. ”Do you think you could trust me a little further? I only need a taste, I swear.”

He could see the wheels turning in your head, and he could hear your pulse quicken in your veins. The idea was erotic to you, like a damsel in distress taken by the blood-sucking monster. Hearing your arousal only made his desire stronger, to show you just how monstrous a creature of the night could really be. He could be the monster you wanted, he was good at that.

“Fine. But not a drop more than you need.” You relented, just like he knew you would. Flashing a smile, you caught sight of his incisors, sharpened like fangs- maybe they really were fangs. You didn’t know.

“Really? I-“ He tried to sound surprised, like your good natured self only wanted to help him become stronger, like you genuinely cared about his well-being. “Of course, not one drop more.”

“Let’s make ourselves comfortable, shall we?” He gestured back to your bedroll, all the excitement contained behind his eyes as he watched you, like a lion watching a gazelle. As you laid back and looked up at him, he couldn’t stop the grin from spreading across his face. How had he gotten you back exactly where he wanted you?

Placing his arms on either side of your head, he bent down to your neck without giving you a moment to reconsider. Trapped like an animal in a cage, you closed your eyes, straining against the sharp pain as his teeth broke through your skin.

It’s better than sex, for Astarion at least. Your warm blood overwhelms him, and like a morphine addict getting their first hit of heroin, he revels in the taste. As your muscles clench and relax beneath him, he can feel your life beginning to flow down his throat. But, like a tamed foil, you allow him to continue. He was tempted to call you a good girl, but the thought of removing his lips from your skin was intolerable.

As he sucked you, his hand drifted up to the back of your head- simultaneously holding you in place and supporting your neck at the same time. Lifting your body up from the bedroll, he began to register the feeling of you trying to fight back, muscles protesting underneath him. Your hands weakly pressed against his chest, attempting to push him backward but your strength was already gone.

Smiling as the blood began to drip down his chin, Astarion only faintly realized he was killing you. The thought didn’t bother him as much as it should have, given that he would have a rather hard time explaining it in the morning. But under the dim firelight as you struggled against him, he didn’t care. Your pulse got faster, pumping the blood directly into his mouth as you began to realize just how dangerous of a situation you were in. He lapped it all, sucking back every last drop he could as your body began to relax and your skin began to lighten. Nothing could beat this feeling, his hunger finally satiated as he dropped your lifeless form back down to the bedroll.

You thumped back down with force, but without the life in your eyes. Astarion had already siphoned it from you, and with a new alertness he regarded your corpse coldly. He only slightly regretted his inability to control himself, you could have been his personal blood bank. He took a deep breath of cold, crisp, night air - still straddling your body.

The night was alive, buzzing and humming with a vibrant intensity. Getting to his feet, Astarion sighed, finally allowing himself to relish in his monstrous abilities- like a real creature of the night.

After reviving you, he would have to play it a bit more careful, if you didn’t knock him out first that was.
